front-end developer (2002-present)
- As a Front-End-Developer (formerly known as "Webmaster") at Matrix, I have done a variety of tasks for a wide variety of clients.
- Among the things I do regularly are: slice desings into XHTML/CSS templates, site implementation using ColdFusion, prototyping for custom web apps, a little light Javascript and the usual general site updates. Occasionally I'm called upon to assist with the Information Architecture process doing site audits.
- Since 2005, I have been a part-time FED, staying at home with my son two days a week.
web developer (2001-2002)
- At Xtria, my primary job was to maintain the site and prepare reports for the Child Outcomes Research and Evaluation (CORE) Program, which is now part of OPRE.
- This site was part of the Department of Health and Human Services. As a government site, I needed to ensure that the site was compliant with the Section 508 standards for accessibility.
graduate fellow (2000-2001)
- For my final year in the Master's Program at UB, I was awarded a graduate fellowship at the Institute for Language, Technology, and Publications Design in the University of Baltimore School of Communications Design. The Institute is now known as the Ampersand Institute for Words & Images.
- As graduate fellow, I helped to plan and promote the Institute's events, designed brochures, wrote copy for ads and flyers, and oh, whatever else they needed me to do.
administrative assistant / webmaster (1998-2000)
- At the University of Maryland, Baltimore, I worked in the Department of Biochemistry as an administrative assistant. I helped plan symposia, prepared course materials for the Biochemistry section for UMB Medical students, and maintained a database of applicants to the Ph.D. program.
- More importantly, I took on the role of maintaining the department's websites. I updated and greatly enhanced the Biochemistry Department's website, and I also created a new website for the
Muscle Program.
administrative assistant / webmaster (1996-1998)
- In the Georgetown University English Department, I worked as an adminstrative assistant — first with the Undergraduate Program and then with the Graduate Program. In addition to typical admin duties, assisting professors in course preparations, and maintaining the M.A. program's admissions database, I became the Webmaster for the English Department.
- These were the early days of the web. Considering I had no technical background and I taught myself HTML, I think I did all right. The English Department's website evolved from a small placeholder site with minimal information into the type of user-oriented resource we have come to expect from a major university.
